Saanvi Sood’s Everest Base Camp Story

First day of the Journey

Saanvi Sood and her father started their trakking with full of energy and enthusiasm.
She left for lukla from Kathmandu along with her father. Lukla is the place from where
the trekking gets started. It is around 65 kms of trekking in one way and a total of
around 120 kms both ways.

Second Day

On the second day, they both covered approximately 8 kms and reached phakding
(elevation 2600 metres) to climb the heights where they wanted to be.

Third Day

Early in the morning of the third day, they left for Namche Bazaar at an altitude of 3400
metres. The day was very hectic as there were very steep and sharp slopes and they
were also moving towards high altitude. After 13 kms trekking, they reached their Guest
house around 3pm where they took some rest and retreated their bodies.

Fourth Day

Fourth day was much more hectic for them because they were suffering from illnesses
and were restless. They warmed up their bodies and went to the nearby hill and covered
around 6 kms and went back to the guest house in Namche Bazaar.

Fifth Day

They started their journey for Debouche early in the morning, and covered around 14
kms by crossing many hurdles in between their paths. They crossed the glaries, narrow
bridges and tight walking space.

Sixth Day

On the sixth day, they left for Dingboche and covered around 10 kms with lack of oxygen
and extreme cold weather conditions. Saanvi Sood navigated her way through rough and
cold terrains. She completed the track of about 65 KM in 9 days.
Her father encouraged her and she did this. She faced so many obstacles in her
journey but she navigated her path and achieved her goal. She was the most
encouraging climber and took care of herself and her father too during her climbing.

Seventh Day

The struggle in life is the total of our achievements, success, failures, and mistakes.
Saanvi Sood climbed the heights with dedication and determination. During her journey,
she felt a bit nervous about whether she could achieve that goal or not because her
oxygen level was reduced.
On Acclimatization day, they settled their bodies to start their expedition and went to
the nearby hill and covered around 7 kms and went back to the guest house in
Dingboche.

Eighth Day

On the last second second day of their journey, they left for a labouche at an altitude of
4900 mtrs, and covered 7 kms. After dinner in the evening, Saanvi had some health
issues, passed 2 vomits, her oxygen level was dropped to 55, her father gave her some
medications and motivated her. He told her that we will take one day extra rest in
Labouche and then will start our further journey or will descend.
But the next morning, she woke up at 4, and requested my dad, we have to move today
only with the group and host the Indian flag as scheduled as per our itinerary.

Ninth Day

They left for Gorakshep, had breakfast and then moved for EBC (5364 METERS) in the
afternoon. They reached EBC at 1.15 pm IST and covered around 13kms on that day. The
moment she hosted the Indian flag was a memorable day for her. Saanvi Sood made a
record and became the first youngest girl in India to wave the Indian flag at the base
camp of Mount Everest.
After reaching the Base Camp point, she was interested in climbing higher but she was
not allowed to do so because of her young age. She was the most encouraging climber
and took care of herself and her father too during her climbing.
